Literary folly

The book I'm currently reading is due at the library today. I went online to renew the book as I've done in the past with others. After I clicked 'Renew', a message next to the book says 'ON HOLD' and would not let me renew. What the hell? 'ON HOLD'? I then proceed to search for the same book in neighboring libraries that are part of the same network of libraries and found there are several copies that are on the shelf. So, you mean that the other copies could not be used for the hold request?

Well, my plan now is after work, check out another copy of the book at another library and return the one I have. Reading is fun-da-mental.

I'm expressing my inner anguish through the majesty of song.

I watched Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy with my brother-in-law on Friday night and I can't get Afternoon Delight out of my head. lol If you haven't watched the movie yet, watch it. It's got some good one-liners in it.

Feast of St. Pio

Today is the feast day of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Our family has a strong devotion to him and my wife and I even visited the National Centre for Padre Pio in Pennsylvania while on our honeymoon. You can read more about his life here or here.

Bell Biv DeVoe... Now you know

Ever been to a place after years of going there and finally realizing, "This place is poison". Well, I've come to that realization recently as are others that I know. Sorry to be vague, but when the time is right I'll expound on the topic. All I know is this 'place' is causing undue stress to me and my friends.

Need to think happy thoughts.

So now is the time in this post where we will dance...

Writer's cramp

I've got nothing, nada, zip. Maybe inspiration will strike soon.

Prophetic?

I did not know this (see yesterday's post)...

Chief Justice Major Nelson

I was scanning through the radio stations this morning on the way to work and happened upon an NPR station that was beginning to broadcast the day's confirmation hearing for Judge John Roberts. Boy was that a snooze fest. I thought it would be at least mildly interesting since I'm more into politics these days, but it couldn't keep my attention. The only thing that always cross my mind is... Judge Roberts and Larry Hagman, a la, I Dream of Jeannie separated at birth?

When it rains, it snows.

As Roseanne Rosannadanna used to say, "It's always something". As I was driving into work this morning, the temperature gauge on the dash of my car started to dance up and down like a jumping bean. I noticed it slowly inched it's way up as I was idling at a traffic light or slowing down. If I continued on, the gauge would drop back near normal. I was figuring the wind draft was cooling the radiator through the grill as I was driving at constant speeds.

I did stop at a CVS parking for a few minutes for fear I wasn't going to make it to the dealership where I sometimes go to to get my car serviced. (Actually, it was the same place I purchased the car.) I had my daughter with me and was on my way to drop her off at my folks so that my Dad would babysit her today. I called him up while at CVS and told him what was going on and asked him if he could meet me at the dealership. I made it there without the car overheating and they are going to at least diagnose the problem. My Dad let me borrow his car to get to work (Thanks, Dad!) and now I wait to find out what the deal is. I have a feeling there is a leak in the radiator and it will need to be replaced.

Are you ready for some fantasy foosball?

Apparently, Yahoo isn't. I've been trying to set up a league but I keep getting this error when it's time to confirm all the settings:

There was a problem:
There was a temporary problem with the server. Please try again shortly. (Error #115)

Wow, that's informative.

Update: I found out the reason why I was getting this message. It's due to the fact that the Yahoo yahoo's think that I'm under 21 and I don't think you can start up a league as such. Apparently, when I first set up my account, I must have put a bogus birth date and it probably thinks I'm underage. I tried using another account with my correct birth date and it was fine. Gotta love computers.

Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your adverbs here

My son's new favorite video is the best of Schoolhouse Rock. Sah-weet! I wish they'd put these things back on Saturday mornings. At least the kids would be learning something. I guess I'd have to submit a bill, just a little ole bill and send on to Cap-a-tal Hill.

Amazed

I'm still amazed at the devastation down in the Gulf from the hurricane. One of the local morning news channels was interviewing one of my all time favorite actors, Morgan Freeman, about his new movie, March of the Penguins. Before going into that though, they talked about what's going on down in Mississippi and Louisiana. They mentioned an online charity auction in which actors donate stuff and just about 100% of the money will go to the Red Cross. I thought that was a great idea. The web site is CharityFolks.com.
