Photosynthesis, hold off please...

As I was driving into work week, this last week in August, I noticed that some trees were already changing color. I was thinking, it's not even September yet and I'm seeing yellow and red leaves starting to pop up, or rather the leaves losing its green color. Doesn't the foliage start around mid to late September up here in the Northeast? I think the seasons are shifting during the year.
